CREATION OF
ROOF GARDENS

Download the datasheet.
Roof gardens are characterised by having a surface which is not in direct contact with the earth. The creation of a roof garden may be a forced choice where is it not possible to construct a garden on the ground; they are creations with great scenic potential. They can be created on the flat or inclined external surfaces of an architectural structure which is not necessarily elevated with respect to ground level, for example on the ground slab of underground garages in villas and condominiums. Roof gardens can either be classical or avant-garde, thanks to technological systems which allow improved energy saving and controlled water saving. Dellavalle Gardens is a certified Harpo Verde Pensile installer, a leading manufacturer of technical materials for this type of landscaping. Our specialist technicians keep themselves up to date with all the regulations and installation and design methods. Together with certified installers of PVC waterproofing membranes, Dellavalle Gardens offers maximum performance and optimal results over time.

INCREASE
IN VALUE

The creation of a roof garden, in addition to its decorative function, its significant psychological and physical benefits and its energy conservation, also leads to a increase in the value of the property itself. A penthouse complete with a roof garden, or with a spectacular and generous garden solution accrues added value and becomes an indisputable attraction for the people who live there or, if sold, for the new owners. Roof gardens transform sad expanses of terrace or courtyard paving into a usable, enchanting and pleasant space.

NOISE
POLLUTION

Noise pollution is exposure to excessive noise of a degree to cause discomfort. Prolonged exposure to annoying noises can cause psychological problems, health problems and stress. The green covering of a roof garden absorbs soundwaves, thus reducing noise propagation. Additionally, roof gardens, as ascertained by research by leading overseas universities, can absorb 94% of electromagnetic frequencies and radiation emissions, thus improving our health and quality of life.

SAVING
RESOURCES

Roof gardens not only act as insulation from solar radiation but also effectively act as thermal protection against heat and cold. They have an unparalleled ability to provide a buffer against daytime and annual temperature fluctuations, which is refreshing in summer and a protection against the cold in winter, with substantial positive impact on energy savings (reduced use of air conditioning and central heating). Dellavalle Gardens is also developing and fine-tuning strategies to reduce water consumption, for example, water storage tubs or RIC (controlled water retention) technology.

TAX
DEDUCTIONS

The Harpo roof garden system chosen by Dellavalle Giardini reflects the UNI 11235 standards and allows you to apply for a tax deduction. Current legislation on energy conservation sets forth tax incentive measures where there is improvement on the energy performance of building units. Thanks to a resolution by the Environment Ministry (resolution 1/2014), the ability to take advantage of tax deductions of 50% of expenses incurred has been recognised for roof gardens.
EXTENSIVE ROOF GARDEN
SYSTEM

INTENSIVE ROOF GARDEN
SYSTEM

EXTENSIVE
SYSTEM
01 / INFO

This is a type of roof garden suitable for industrial and commercial facilities in zones of high soil sealing (weight 120-200kg/m2, low thickness: 11-18cm). It helps restoration of the water cycle and mitigation of climate and air pollution. The extensive system can include plants such as Sedum, which has limited height development, resistance to frost, drought and wind, and excellent capacity for regeneration; or a balanced coverage of perennial and aromatic herbaceous plants, ideal for use where, in addition to mitigation and compensation, aesthetics and integration with the landscape are required; natural grass cover is also possible, obtainable from seed (a mix of special grass and flower seeds, from the SemeNostrum range). Wild meadows are also suitable as roof coverings with a high ecological value and when integration with the landscape is required. This solution has the technical features appropriate to achieve a roof garden with a rich biodiversity.

INTENSIVE
SYSTEM
02 / INFO

This is a roof garden characterised by a higher thickness of the substrate and of the final “package” (weight from 225kg/m2, thickness more than 20cm). This is the perfect solution when you require the rooftop stratigraphy to offer a space which is usable in all respects, even with limited thicknesses and weights. It is possible to create walkable grassy areas mixed with medium-sized bushes and even trees, with integrated continuous draingage of paved areas. The intensive system, thanks to the “domesticated” grass is fully usable; the presence of shrubs and even large trees does not preclude heavy furniture and paving; this allows the space to be livened up and harmonised, turning banal paved and cemented surfaces of terraces, roofs and courtyards, lacking natural substrate, into real gardens.

SUBSTRATE
USED
03 / INFO

The substrate, from which the plants draw nutrients and into which they sink their roots, is the cornerstone of the system chosen by Dellavalle Gardens and is composed principally of a mineral base (volcanic lapilli, pumice, clay...); the organic substance is reduced to the minimum necessary as a decrease in thickness occurs over time and a structural variation of the substrate makes it easily attacked by pests. It is a material with high technical performance (reduced weight at maximum saturation, high permeability over time, air content and other valuable characteristics).

CONTINUOUS
DRAINAGE
04 / INFO

With the SEIC systems chosen by Dellavalle Gardens, it is possible to create a multidirectional network of special ducts beneath the garden which allow continuous and uninterrupted drainage of all the surfaces. The design and management of the rainwater disposal system is completely independent of the selection of roof covering finishes. This means that even if there are going to be a range of different surfacing solutions (roof garden, paved paths, paved driveways, etc...), the covering can be considered as a single, continuous waterproof plate, with considerable technical advantages and greater durability.
